You could read all that on Wikipedia, but I'll sum it up for you. Basically there are 8-9 categories. Points, Rebounds, Assists, Blocks, Steals, FG %, FT %, 3 pointers made and sometimes turnovers. So you decide to play in a league. Leagues can have from 4-30 teams, 10-16 teams on average. You become the gm. Your league will have drafts, via live drafts or by email. Your goal is to draft the best all around players that fill up many categories and don't hurt you much in any categories. Shaq in his prime would be a very good fantasy asset, but because of the fact that he can single handily kill you in FT%, he is not a fantasy stud. Players that help you out in rare categories are. You have to factor out real life comparisons. Shaq or Josh Smith? In real life probably Shaq. In fantasy, Josh Smith. He helps you out in points, rebounds, not a bad passer, and helps you out a lot in two rare categories with steals and blocks.
