Quality loss for Bulls

Postby bullsger on Wed Mar 17, 2010 2:32 am

By John Jackson (Chicago Suntimes)

But the Bulls certainly earned a measure of respect by pushing the Memphis Grizzlies to the final minute in a 104-97 loss Tuesday at the FedEx Forum despite playing without four starters.

The loss extended the Bulls' losing streak to eight games, but this was one nobody realistically expected them even to be competitive in. They played without injured Derrick Rose (sprained left wrist), Luol Deng (strained muscle in right calf) and Joakim Noah (plantar fasciitis in left foot) and suspended Kirk Hinrich.

''A lot of guys out there haven't played together for that long, even in practice, so I was pleased with the effort,'' Bulls coach Vinny Del Negro said. ''You're always disappointed with this result.''

Flip Murray led the Bulls with 25 points on 9-for-19 shooting. Hakim Warrick, who spent his first four seasons in the NBA with the Grizzlies, added 22 on 7-for-12 shooting.

The Grizzlies, who played without center Marc Gasol, were led by O.J. Mayo with 24 points.

As though Del Negro didn't have enough juggling to do, he had to make one more move because rookie James Johnson was yanked from the starting lineup after arriving late to practice Monday.

So without Johnson, Del Negro went with a three-guard lineup of Jannero Pargo, Acie Law and Murray with Taj Gibson and Brad Miller upfront.
