hopefully the cubs trade jones for someone good....with all this talk about them trading him i just hope they get what he's worth cause he's a solid offensive player and outfielders have been hard to come by......reportedly they are looking at chone figgins which i think would b a good move if they dont spend too much

Yeah, they're thinking of having Soriano play Centerfield.

Cubs Close On Cliff Floyd
I swear I used that headline last week, but here are. Paul Sullivan reports that the Cubs are "on the verge" of acquiring Cliff Floyd.

He'd platoon with Matt Murton, which begs the question: why does Murton need a platoon partner? As I said five days ago:

"It seems like a great way to stunt Matt Murton's growth and waste a year of cheap service time. Floyd hit .266/.342/.423 against righties in '06. Murton managed a .295/.356/.426 line against them in his first full season. The Big Murt also hit .319/.390/.522 after the break. And he has red hair."

There better be a brilliant Jacque Jones trade in the offing. Still, while nonsensical, this move won't rival the Jose Vidro trade for the offseason's worst.

I guess if they need some power than Floyd would be the guy. Either way, it would strengthen the bench, which never hurts a team. That was a major flaw of the Cubs last year, from both a position and pitching standpoint, not being deep enough, but then again, last year you couldn't even prepare for from the Cubs standpoint in that way.

I don't know about anyone else, but I've been very impressed with Rocky Cherry so far during this spring.
