Bryant's 81 points

Bryant's 81 points

Not so much lately, but around the time Kobe scored the 81 I was always hearing that he would have never scored them if he wasn't such a ballhog and hadn't taken so many shots. People go on to see Chamberlains 100 point effort was much better and more efficient. Wilt took 17 more shots and converted on 8 more shots. Wilt shot 36 out of 63 compared to Kobe 28 out of 46. Wilt's percentage : 57%. Kobe percentage : 61%. I obviously wasn't alive to see Chamberlains game but from what I have read he started off the game with a chip on his shoulder. His team didn't trail at any point. Kobe had his team trailing by 18 at one point. I'm not saying either effort was better, but saying that Kobe's performance was one of a ballhogs is crazy.

Yeah, I wouldn't really be able to compare them, since they're from different eras, but this is pretty interesting. Wilt played at a time when a lot more shots were put up, and that could be the reason for his more shot attempts, he also shot an amazing (only for him) 28 of 32 at the free throw line, so that's pretty impressive for someone who couldn't otherwise shoot free throws. However, we have to remember that Wilt is the reason that offensive goaltending is a violation in today's game as well.

If Shaq played in Wilt's time, he would have AVERAGED 100 and 50. Thats why I don't consider Chamberlain's accomplishments so great since Bill Russel was the only person with 5 inches of his height.

Kobe's performance was unbelievable, and I'm not goping to say it was better than Wilt's, but that's what the facts are pointing to. Wilt was a big guy, the most dominant guy in the game during his time, was there anyone who matched up with him? It's harder for a swingman to put on a show like that. Plus, Kobe would have never imagined scoring 81 points, unless everybody around him played like crap, which happened. He scored to win the game.

Wilt also took shots from like 5 feet and in. Kobe was draining 23-30 footers with guys in his face. Kobe will never get the respect he deserves for that performance. why? b/c he's Kobe. if Kobe went into a game saying "I'm going for 100", no doubt in my mind he could do it. he'd never do that though b/c he listens to the media too much. when Kobe has great individual performances, he's selfish and a ballhog. but when Wade drops 40 with 25 FTs made, it's "great". Kobe's the most hated player in the game today. when he's gone people will appreciate just how good this guy is.
