ESPN Story

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Portland Trail Blazers center Greg Oden will likely miss the rest of the season after fracturing his left knee cap against Houston on Saturday night.

Oden will undergo surgery, the Trail Blazers said.

The 7-foot center dropped to the floor clutching his left knee and grimacing after colliding with a driving Aaron Brooks midway through the first quarter.

He was almost immediately surrounded by trainers and physicians. The crowd at the Rose Garden stood and chanted "Oden! Oden!"

The game was stopped for some 7 minutes. Finally, Oden was gently moved to a stretcher and wheeled from the court. He underwent an MRI shortly thereafter.

"I'm obviously disappointed having worked so hard to get to where I was. This is a setback but I'll be back. It's in God's hands now," the statement said. "I want to thank the fans, my teammates and everyone in the Blazers family for all of their good thoughts."

I hope that Oden good recovery to be at full health for some minutes playoff time.

Bad for the Blazers.
Rose: "I want to be that guy. I want to be the reason why the Bulls are back to what they were [during the Michael Jordan era]."

The odds for the Blazers of going to the next level and taking the Lakers down have been lowered--again.

It all started with Turkoglu decided to go to Toronto because he wanted to be in an "international" environment rather than play for a rising contender.

I don't remember seeing a contender go backward because of things out of their control like what's happenning to Portland.

I wish Oden well, but a fourth injury in four years doesn't bode well for someone who was seen as another Tim Duncan:

2006-2007: Missed 7 games w/broken wrist and played the college season w/out it healing fully
2007-2008: Out for the season: Microfracture surgery on the right knee
2008-2009: Out for 20 games: foot sprain and ankle sprain IRC
2009-2010: Out for the season: fractured left patella
